Prolific
Terms
Last updated October 11, 2026
Prolific is run by its founder as a sole proprietorship based in Minnesota (“Prolific,” “we”). By using Prolific, joining a skate or booking ice, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
What Prolific is
Prolific helps people find hockey ice and helps rinks, associations and teams offer unused ice. Prolific does not own or operate rinks. For real ice shown with a Prolific price, Prolific books the ice with the rink for you once you've paid. For other listings, you book and pay directly with the rink or team that listed it. Either way, the rink's rules and policies apply on the ice.
Listings marked Demo are samples that show how Prolific works. They are not real availability, and actions on them do not reserve ice or charge you.
Who can use Prolific
You must be 18 or older to book ice or to join an adult skate. A parent, guardian or coach may book ice for a youth team and is responsible for the players they bring and for following the rink's rules.
Bookings and payments
Requesting a listed hour does not reserve ice, and the hour may no longer be available. Nothing is booked until it is confirmed.
Card holds. When you join a skate or request Full or Half Ice, we place a hold on your card for the price shown (an authorization, not a charge) through our payment processor, Stripe, and save the card for that booking. You authorize Prolific to charge that card the amount shown when the ice is booked. A card hold lasts about seven days; if your booking is confirmed after the hold has ended, you authorize us to charge the saved card for the same amount then. If your booking doesn't go ahead (the skate doesn't fill by its deadline, the hour isn't available, another group books it first, you're removed from the skate, or it's cancelled), we release the hold and you're not charged. Your bank decides how quickly a released hold disappears from your statement.
For real ice that Prolific books for you, the total shown includes the rink's price, the rink's transaction fee and tax, and Prolific's booking fee. Prolific confirms availability, charges your hold and books the ice. If the hour sells before we book it, the hold is released. If you cancel after we book, the rink's transaction fee and Prolific's booking fee are not refunded; any other refund depends on the rink's cancellation policy.
Claiming Half Ice reserves one half of the hour, not the ice. Each half's card is held for the listed price; Prolific charges both and books the ice only when both halves are in. If the other half isn't in by the time claiming closes, or the hour sells first, your hold is released. Once Prolific books the ice, halves are not refundable.
Joining a Prolific pickup skate means you're committing to play. Skaters' cards are held for the skater price when they join (including on the waitlist); goalies skate free and need no card. When enough skaters and goalies have committed, Prolific charges the held cards, then books the ice. If the skate doesn't fill by its deadline, every hold is released and nobody is charged. A waitlist hold is released if no spot opens. Once Prolific books the ice, payments are not refundable.
If the rink cancels. If the rink cancels booked ice or closes, you get a full refund, including Prolific's booking fee.
On your statement. Charges appear as PROLIFIC. If something looks wrong, contact us first and we'll sort it out quickly.
Your private link. Your confirmation includes a private link to your signup. From it you can see where things stand and, until you've been charged, drop out or cancel (your hold is released, and on a skate your spot goes to the next player on the waitlist), or replace a declined card. Anyone with the link can do this, so keep it to yourself. After you've been charged, contact Prolific instead.
Playing hockey
Hockey is a contact sport with a real risk of injury, including serious injury, even in “no checking” skates. You choose to play and you play at your own risk. You're responsible for being fit to play, wearing the protective equipment the rink requires (at least a helmet, gloves and skates), and following the rink's rules and staff.
Prolific arranges ice and lineups; it does not run, referee or supervise the game, and the rink is responsible for its own building and ice. To the fullest extent the law allows, you release Prolific from claims for injury, loss or damage that happens while you play or are at the rink, except where caused by Prolific's gross negligence or willful misconduct.
We may remove anyone from a skate for unsafe, abusive or dishonest conduct. If that happens after you've been charged, the payment is not refunded.
Offering ice
When you send an hour through Post Ice, you confirm that it is genuinely unused and that you are allowed to offer or release it. Prolific reviews submissions and may decline or remove any hour. Information you provide must be accurate.
Fair use
Do not submit false requests or listings, other people's information without permission, or automated or abusive traffic, and do not try to get around the site's security or limits.
No guarantees
We work to keep information accurate, but availability, times and prices can change and come from rinks and teams. Prolific is provided “as is.” To the extent the law allows, Prolific is not responsible for the ice itself, for arrangements between you and an ice holder, or for indirect losses from using the site, and Prolific's total responsibility for any booking is limited to the amount you paid Prolific for it.
Photos
Rink photos on Prolific are shown for reference, to help you recognize the rink. Prolific does not own these photos; they belong to their owners. If a photo is yours and you'd like it credited or removed, contact us and we'll take care of it promptly.
